Smart Futures Commercialisation Fellowships

The Smart Futures Commercialisation Fellowships aim to improve industry uptake of new technologies; assist research organisations to commercialise their research; and support venture capital fund managers to strengthen links with the overseas investment community. There are three types of Commercialisation Fellowships.

Researcher-in-Residence Fellowships features at a glance

  • grants of up to $100,000 per year
  • available to industry and businesses to engage an innovation-focussed researcher
  • engagement is to be for a minimum of six months and maximum of two years
  • funding can be applied on either a full-time or part-time arrangement
  • researchers must possess a PhD or equivalent postgraduate research qualification, with the equivalent of more than three years full-time post-doctoral research experience
  • researchers must be retained and sponsored for the term of the Fellowship by a Queensland based small-medium sized enterprise
  • Queensland Government funding is to be matched by a sponsor cash contribution of 1:1

Entrepreneur-in-Residence Fellowships features at a glance

  • grants of up to $100,000 per year
  • available to universities and research institutes to engage business people and entrepreneurs
  • engagement is to be for a minimum of three months and maximum of 18 months
  • funding can be applied on either a full-time or part-time arrangement
  • entrepreneurs must have commercialisation experience
  • entrepreneurs must be retained and sponsored for the term of the Fellowship by a Queensland-based university or research institute
  • Queensland Government funding is to be matched by a sponsor cash contribution of 1:1

Innovation Investment Exchange Fellowships features at a glance

  • grants of up to $AUD45,000
  • available to Queensland-based venture capital fund managers to engage in one-way or two-way exchange programs with overseas venture capital firms to strengthen Queensland's links with the international investment community
  • placements with the international host must be from 12 to 30 weeks
  • the funding includes provision for a follow-up visit to Queensland for a senior representative of the host organisation (up to $AUD10,000)
  • the Fellowship must be completed within one year of approval
  • Queensland Government funding is to be matched by a sponsor cash contribution of 1:1
