Smart Futures Fund

The Smart Futures Fund is an $80 million Queensland Government investment to support collaborative projects, skills development and innovative research throughout the State. The Smart Futures Fund is a shift away from infrastructure investment and a shift towards projects and people. This will further the results already gained by the Smart State Innovation Funds.

The Smart Futures Fund will stimulate cutting-edge research projects and attract top-quality scientists to Queensland to utilise Queensland's world-class research facilities. 

The 2009/2010 funding round funding round is now closed however, applications to the Partnerships-Alliances Facilitation Program and the Proof of Concept Fund - Project based are accepted on an on-going basis 

The Smart Futures Fund is comprised of two sub-funds - the Innovation Projects Fund and the Innovation Skills Fund.

Innovation Projects Fund 
Four grant programs funding collaborative, cutting-edge research projects:

  • National and International Research Alliances Program - the round is now closed
  • Research-Industry Partnerships Program - the round is now closed
  • Partnerships-Alliances Facilitation Program
  • Proof of Concept Fund

Applications to the Partnerships-Alliances Facilitation Program and the Proof of Concept Fund - Project based are accepted on an on-going basis.

Innovation Skills Fund
Four grant programs funding the development of research skills:

  • Smart Futures Premier's Fellowships - the round is now closed
  • Smart Futures Fellowships - the round is now closed
  • Smart Futures PhD Scholarships - the round is now closed
  • Smart Futures Commercialisation Fellowships - the round is now closed (includes the Entrepreneur-in-Residence Fellowships, Researcher-in-Residence Fellowships and Innovation Investment Exchange Fellowships)

Innovation Building Fund This program is now closed.
Loan funding to support the refurbishment or construction of R&D infrastructure and/or the acquisition and installation of R&D equipment is not currently available.
